~Children on the Beach

.
.
Sally Swatland was born on September 20th, 1946
in Washington, D.C. She grew up in a family that
appreciated the arts; her grandmother was a concert
violinist, her aunt was a talented artist, and her mother
played piano and sang in several choirs.
Drawing was second nature to Sally, and she began
painting when she was just five years old.
Sally Swatland had two sisters who were also encouraged
to study drawing, painting, and anything that
developed creative expression.
Most of Sally Swatland Paintings are focus on children
on beach in impressionism style. In the
early 1970s, Sally approached her local Saks Fifth Avenue
store to inquire about their exhibition space.
She was granted her first show, where she exhibited
a group of flower, landscape and figure paintings.
The results were positive ¨C she sold many
of the works on display.

“I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night?
Let me think: was I the same when I got up this morning?
I almost think I can remember feeling a little different.
But if I’m not the same, the next question is
‘Who in the world am I?’ Ah, that’s the great puzzle!”

~Arthur Rackham

arthur rackham peter.
At last, with a grand design burning within his
heart, he begged them to do it once more with him
clinging to the tail, and now a hundred flew off
with the string, and Peter clung to the tail, meaning
to drop off when he was over the Gardens.
But the kite broke to pieces in the air, and he would
have been drowned in the Serpentine had he
not caught hold of two indignant swans and
made them carry him to the island.
After this the birds said that they would help him
no more in his mad enterprise.”

“Tony could always outdistance her easily,
but never had she known him speed away so
quickly as now, and she was sure he hurried
that he might have more time to hide.
“Brave, brave!” her doting eyes were crying
when she got a dreadful shock; instead of hiding,
her hero had run out at the gate!
At this bitter sight Maimie stopped blankly, as if all
her lapful of darling treasures were suddenly spilled,
and then for very disdain she could not sob; in a
swell of protest against all puling cowards she ran
to St. Govnor’s Well and hid in Tony’s stead.”

Edmund Dulac.
The lady sleeps! Oh, may her sleep,
Which is enduring, so be deep!
Heaven have her in its sacred keep!
This chamber changed for one more holy,
This bed for one more melancholy,
I pray to God that she may lie
Forever with unopened eye,
While the pale sheeted ghosts go by!

~Sunday Poem

.
If I were a month, I would be May
If I were a day of the week, I would be Saturday
If I were a time of day, I would be sunrise

If I were the weather, I would be sunny with a soft breeze
If I were a direction, I would be north
If I were a scent, I would be Mimosa

If I were a tree, I would be a Cherry Blossom
If I were a flower, I would be a Peony
If I were an animal, I would be a bird

If I were a fine bone china, I would be a pink rose laced teacup
If I were a car, I would be a 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe
If I was a painting, I would be the La Modiste by Jean Béraud

If I were a drink, I would be Champagne
If I were a fruit, I would be cherry
If I were a dessert, I would be Lavender Crème Brûlée

If I were a perfume, I would be Clive Christian No. 1
If I were a gemstone, I would be an Emerald
If I were a castle, I would be Mey

If I were a musical instrument, I would be a violin
If I were a sound, I would be a bell
If I were a song, I would be Sway

If I were a colour, I would be pink
If I were an emotion, I would be joy
If I were a taste, I would be sweet

If I were a museum, I would be the Louvre
If I were a country, I would be England
If I could be
anyone, I would be me

~A Fox and a Crow

The_Fox_and_the_Crow_by_blindedangel.
A Fox once saw a Crow fly off with a piece of cheese
in its beak and settle on a branch of a tree.
"That's for me, as I am a Fox," said Master Reynard,
and he walked up to the foot of the tree.
"Good day, Mistress Crow," he cried. "How well you
are looking today: how glossy your feathers;
how bright your eye. I feel sure your voice must
surpass that of other birds, just as your figure does;
let me hear but one song from you that I may greet
you as the Queen of Birds."
The Crow lifted up her head and began to caw her
best, but the moment she opened her mouth the piece
of cheese fell to the ground, only to be snapped up
by Master Fox.
"That will do," said he. "That was all I wanted.
In exchange for your cheese I will give you a piece
of advice for the future: "Do not trust flatterers."
